Portable
NEM-Review portable allows NEM-Review Query modules to function while disconnected from the network. This is especially useful for portable devices such as laptops.
The process has been streamlined with the release of the new version of NEM-Review.
All query licences will intially start with the portable option disabled. As a result, the Portability menu will be disabled. To access the GO PORTABLE feature, you need to first enable its use in the options menu.
To enable the Portability menu:
- Goto Tools -> Options
- One the left hand side of the options window, select the Portability Options Section.
- Select the Check Box "Enable NEM-Review Portable" to enable the portable menu. You may browse for the location to save the portable database if you wish by selecting the browse button. If you do not select a location, the Portable database will be saved in a Folder called Portable, in the location of your NEM-Review install (i.e C:\Program Files\global-roam\NEM-Review V5\Portable by default).
- Click O.K to close the options menu. The Portable Menu will now be enabled (and will display whether you are using the master or the portable database).
You may now access the Go Portable function from the portability menu. In addition, enabling go Portable in the Options menu means that your portable database will be updated from the master database everytime NEM-Review is opened and can detect the network database. Going portable is gained through the Portability menu. To access the menu, select the menu which displays what database you are currently using.
Before using the GO PORTABLE for the first time, you must copy your database locally. Select the portable menu, and click on "Copy Database Locally", a small screen will appear telling you that a copy of the master database is being placed on your machine. Once it has copied, you may go portable. NOTE: You may only ever copy the database locally whilst you are using the Network database (i.e the copy database locally command will not work whilst you are in portable mode, even if you are connected to the network.)
To Go Portable Select the Portability Menu, and select "Use Portable Database (Go Portable). A message box will indicate that you are now using your portable database. Note that whilst you are using the portable database, you will no longer receive the latest up to date data. The menu portability menu will now change to reflect that you are using the local database, and will indicate the most recent date for which it has data for. NOTE: If you have shut down NEM-Review whilst in portable mode, NEM-Review may restart and connect to the master database if it detects it. If it fails to detect the network database on start-up, it will revert to using the portable database. This has been designed so that a user will not forget they are portable, and thus miss the oportunity for up to date data when they are connected to the master database.
If your are in portable mode and wish to start using the master database again, select the "Use Master Database (Updated Daily) from the portability menu. This will connect your copy of NEM-Review back up to the network database if it is available.
To disable the option to go portable, simply uncheck the Enable Portable box in the options menu. This can only be done whilst are connected to the master database (i.e not in portable mode).
